John Simpson

All the Doublewide Kings feel a little “cooler,” “hipper,” and yes, “prettier” having Johnny Pone in the band—we all keep praying that a bit of his devilishly suave mojo will rub off on the rest of us. With little regard for small craft warnings, Johnny sets sail with a crosswind of soulful vocals and knowing smiles that can turn a line of melody into a piece of magic, and can elevate a simple song into an honest-to-god wang dang doodle. Not to mention the fact that when he starts blowing harp, he’s channeling diatonic messages from the elder blues gods. The old needlepointed saying holds true: “Pone is where the heart is.”
